Our Vision
Here at Makr our vision is empowering new and upcoming artists, makers, and programmers to span the art and science gap in the Inner City. But what does that mean and how does Makr make a difference not only in the lives our students but the community we are part of?

Our Founder
Zane Homan is an Omaha native growing up on Hamilton Street. His mother was a school teacher with OPS and father a recording engineer. Through his mother's students, he heard their stories and was introduced to the pains but also the beauty of inner city youth. His Father created and fueled Zane's creativity in both the arts and in science / technology. Years later Zane and his wife Jenna moved to North Omaha with a mission and goal of engaging in their neighborhood with love and empowerment. Zane, being apart of a North Omaha mentorship program, was once again shown the beauty and pains of the Inner city. He also saw the wide reaching potential of the people, specifically the students. Living in North Omaha also exposed the lack of opportunities in the Arts and Sciences. In that Zane began to dream of something better. While working at the mentorship program parent non-profit, he started putting together a plan that would not just be another program, but a relationship-driven program that can truly empower and make a difference.
This is why Makr believes that every person has potential and can make a difference, not only in their own lives but the lives around them. We believe Makr is bigger than just a space where people can have access to tools. It's a mentorship program built on bringing people together to form a community that can create real change in each other but also in its wider community and city.
Our Goal
Makr's goal is not just access to tools but is truly about building long term empowering relationships that have real outcomes. We desire to see this not only in the students time at Makr but long after. To do that Makr is being built to last. There are a number of ways to be part of that process.
Help us increase our capacity through our Support our Students Campaign. Where $15/mo will support a student for a week,
We are also currently looking for mentors. We know it's best for both mentors and students to have a low number of students per mentor. To do that we need people from across Omaha with a wide range of skill sets.
Help us expanded our tool selection and what we can provide though equipment sponsorships and one time gifts. These help us cover the tool costs over the year and one time gifts allow us to build up capital for larger purchases.
